Excellence:

  • Be cautious using subjective terminology in referring to the organization, e.g., "most successful opera companies."  This may be viewed negatively and cannot be adequately assessed.  To whom is the organization being compared? Other entities in Miami, nationally, internationally?  Many other companies may take chagrin to this nomenclature.
  • Goal 1 objectives: Themes such as?  Provide examples here for more salient explanations.  Is Song Fest already a part of the regular series or will it become so this season in the proposal?  No specifics were available regarding the latter.
  • Goal 2: What is this stated "new approach?" No details are available which makes it hard to assess measurability. Also, how will this shared staff member help?  No details are available here.
  • Goal 3: To what level has the organization invested in professional development?  Is it staying flat, increasing, or decreasing?
  • Goal 4: This is FAR too broad.  Creating of a new financial model should be undertaken as part of a strategic or 5-year plan.  What can the organization do this season to begin that process or develop one part of that new model?
  • Why is the YA Program not part of any of the goals?  If this is a central component to the organization, it should have more detail than an off the cuff mention regarding the Song Fest Series.

Impact:

  • How was the figure of $12,000,000 assessed?  The numbers provided only compute to just under $8,000,000. More data regarding totals of employment as well as hotel stays and dining data should be included.
  • Free tickets for dress rehearsals is wonderful. Thank you.
  • How many folks benefit from the Cadenza program?
  • M/P is sound

Management:

  • Evaluation Plan: The assessments should be included as part of the supplemental materials and data should be included regarding how the organization uses its findings to amend future season planning.
  • Similarly, pre- and post-tests in the YA Program should be included.
  • Budget: This is a rather significant deficit despite the size of the overall budget. Besides ticket sales, what other measures has the organization put in place to be fiscally responsible in the upcoming fiscal year just in case ticket sales are off once again and it is not a one-time occurence? Additionally, it is often not wise to try to monetize outreach events as those are designed to give back to the community.  What does the organization mean by this statement?
